Context: Closeness is the promise — not an explanation of the loss.
Bible Verses About Grief
Grief is given room in Scripture. There are whole books of lament, and Jesus weeps at a graveside even though he knows what he is about to do.
There is no timetable here. Read one passage rather than all six if that is what today allows, and consider talking to someone who can walk alongside you.

The passages
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
Context: A beatitude spoken to people already mourning, blessing them as they are.
“When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled, and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus wept.”
Context: Jesus weeps with Mary and Martha minutes before raising Lazarus. Grief is not treated as unbelief.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more. The first things have passed away.””
Context: A future hope, described as God personally wiping tears rather than dismissing them.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
Context: Comfort received is described as comfort to be passed on, in time.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Context: Walking through, not around. The valley stays in the sentence.
