Bible Verses About Faith
Faith in Scripture is closer to trust than to certainty. It is usually shown in action — someone travelling, waiting, giving or asking — rather than defined abstractly.
Hebrews 11 is the closest the Bible comes to a definition, and even there it immediately turns into a list of people who acted.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Context: Wisdom literature. 'Lean not on your own understanding' is advice for decision-making, not a ban on thinking.
“Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!””
Context: A father's honest prayer — belief and unbelief in the same sentence — and Jesus answers it anyway.
“for we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Context: Written in a passage about enduring present hardship with a future in view.
“Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.”
Context: James is not opposing Paul but testing claims: faith that changes nothing is not living faith.
“So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Context: Faith is described as something that arrives through hearing rather than something worked up internally.
