“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.”
Context: Written to exiles in Babylon told to settle for seventy years — a national promise, not a personal career guarantee.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.”
Context: Follows directly on from salvation by grace: good works are the outcome, not the price.
“There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the LORD’s counsel will prevail.”
Context: A realistic proverb about the gap between our plans and what finally stands.
“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Context: The promise is that things work together for good, not that all things are good.
“being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Context: Confidence is placed in the one who began the work, not in the person's progress.
“The LORD will fulfill that which concerns me. Your loving kindness, LORD, endures forever. Don’t forsake the works of your own hands.”
Context: A short, personal line about God completing what concerns us.
