The passages
“that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.”
Context: Confession and belief held together; Paul is arguing that the message is near, not remote.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.”
Context: Verse 17 is the often-omitted half: the purpose stated is saving, not condemning.
“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!””
Context: Spoken by Peter under interrogation after healing a man at the temple gate.
“But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,”
Context: Kindness and mercy are given as the cause, with works explicitly ruled out as the basis.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Context: A contrast of wages and gift, closing a chapter about no longer living under sin.
