The passages
““Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Context: Jesus addresses food and clothing specifically — basic provision, not prosperity.
“Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
Context: Honouring God with the first of what you have, as a pattern rather than a transaction.
“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.”
Context: An old man's testimony, offered as observation rather than as a universal rule.
“Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.””
Context: Contentment grounded in presence: be free from the love of money, because he will not leave you.
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out. But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.”
Context: Godliness with contentment as gain, in a chapter warning about the pursuit of wealth.
