Context: Trust is contrasted with leaning on your own understanding — not with thinking carefully.
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.”
Context: A short, honest sentence: the fear comes first and trust answers it.
“You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever; for in the LORD, the LORD, is an everlasting Rock.”
Context: Steady peace is tied to a mind that keeps returning to God rather than to the crisis.
““Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose confidence is in the LORD. For he will be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be concerned in the year of drought. It won’t cease from yielding fruit.”
Context: The tree by water still meets heat and drought; what changes is what it is rooted in.
“Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this:”
Context: Committing your way is active language — handing over a plan, not abandoning it.
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who take refuge in him.”
Context: A line about refuge in a book largely about judgement, which makes it striking.
