The passages
“A Psalm of thanksgiving. Shout for joy to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness. Come before his presence with singing. Know that the LORD, he is God. It is he who has made us, and we are his. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.”
Context: A short psalm written for entering the temple with thanksgiving — communal by design.
“In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.”
Context: Thanks in all circumstances, which is different from thanks for all circumstances.
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord. Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Context: Gratitude appears three times in three verses, tied to peace and to singing together.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.”
Context: The opening of a psalm that then tells four stories of rescue.
“In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
Context: Thanksgiving placed inside the instruction about anxiety and prayer.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.”
Context: Every good gift traced to a giver who does not change.
